Troubled Waters — Where God Heals the Heart

  • When Life Feels Overwhelming

  • What It Means to Hold Your Peace

  • When Peace Is Missing

  • Trusting God in the Middle of It

  • How God Leads Us Into Truth

I’ve been thinking about the story where the water was stirred…

and whoever stepped in was healed.

And then Jesus shows up and asks:

“Do you want to be made well?”

That question has been sitting with me.

Because I’m realizing—

we don’t like troubled water.

When Things Get Stirred

When life gets hard…

it doesn’t just reveal what’s happening around us—

it reveals what’s happening inside of us.

And if I’m honest…

that’s the part I don’t always want to look at.

Working It Out in the Heart

The Bible says in Philippians 2:12:

“Work out your own salvation…”

I’m learning that doesn’t mean fixing everything.

It means allowing God to show me what’s in my heart—

and responding to it.

⚖️ Peace vs. Truth

Sometimes I feel peace.

And sometimes I don’t.

And when I don’t…

I have to ask:

  • Am I supposed to let this go?

  • Or am I supposed to stand in truth?

Because the heart can be deceptive.

But God is faithful to reveal what is true.

One Small Step

I had a moment recently…

where I walked past my bed for three days and didn’t make it.

And that’s not like me.

It wasn’t about the bed.

I felt stuck.

Almost paralyzed.

But I remembered this:

👉 2 Timothy 1:7

God has not given us a spirit of fear…but of power, love, and a sound mind.

So instead of trying to fix everything—

I did one thing.

I made the bed.

And it seems small…

but it was a step forward.

🌿 When You Feel Overwhelmed

When I feel overwhelmed now…

I go back to this:

👉 Exodus 14:14

“The Lord will fight for you—you hold your peace.”

And I’ve learned something:

When peace is missing—

it matters.

Searching for Truth

When I notice that lack of peace…

I start asking:

  • What’s not right here?

  • What doesn’t feel true?

  • What is being hidden?

Even in a recent situation…

it wasn’t about the money.

I was at peace with the money.

It was the lack of peace behind it.

It was the hidden things.

The things I couldn’t trust.

Ask, Seek, Knock

So I kept going to God in prayer.

Because Jesus said:

👉 Matthew 7:7

Ask. Seek. Knock.

And the door will be opened.

And I’m realizing—

that door…

is truth.

The Truth

👉 John 14:6

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

So maybe being overwhelmed…

isn’t failure.

Maybe it’s the beginning of overcoming.

Closing

Because sometimes…

the troubled water we want to avoid—

is the very place

where God is healing our heart.

And Jesus is still asking:

“Do you want to be made well?”

👉 Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…”
👉 Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…”

👉 Jesus says and it is written in John 14:6

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
