Part One — The Shift: Learning to seek God instead of people (Jeremiah 29:13–14)

Part One — The Shift

Stop Trying to Figure Things Out Through People

Why Seeking God Instead of People Changes Everything

There comes a point in our walk with God where we stop seeking answers through people and begin seeking God instead of people.

There comes a point in our walk with God where He begins to gently, but firmly,

shift us.

Not by removing people

… But by removing our dependence on them.

For a long time, I found myself trying to understand things through people—

through the weight I placed on what they thought,

how they reacted,

and how they responded.

What they said

What they didn’t say

What they posted

And I’ll be honest…

Sometimes, even what I imagined they meant.

Over time, I began to see what this was really doing in me.

It felt quiet—but heavy.

At times, I felt disengaged…

unsettled…

left out…

even frustrated.

There were moments I felt stuck—

like I was trying to understand my place,

but coming to the wrong conclusions.

And in that space, I could see how easy it was

to believe things that weren’t actually true about my situation.

That’s when I began to understand something deeper:

The human heart can be deceptive.

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

— Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV)

And yet—God does.

And instead of leaving me there,

He began to gently draw me inward…

Not to figure things out on my own—

but to bring my thoughts, my questions, and my feelings back to Him,

where truth could begin to replace what I assumed.

It was limiting.

It was like a quiet wall that kept me from seeing what God was actually trying to show me within myself.

Instead of growing,

I found myself silently rehearsing what I thought others might be thinking about me—

when in reality, that often wasn’t even true.

And in doing that, I was looking outward,

trying to interpret everything through others…

instead of allowing God to reveal what He wanted to teach me within my own heart.

Overthinking people’s opinions can quietly lead to shame—especially when your life doesn’t yet look like what you know God is forming it into.

You begin to second guess not just yourself… but even God’s work in you.

But things are not always as they appear.

God is doing a good work in all of us—just at different times and at different speeds.

When we release our thoughts to God, something powerful happens:

We are no longer held captive to what people may think about who we are or what we are doing.

We are free.

Free to grow with God in our measure of faith.

Free to trust that He is tending to both our internal and external needs.

“And he hath made every thing beautiful in his time:

also he hath set eternity in their heart…”

— Ecclesiastes 3:11 (KJV)

There is something in us that longs for more

—Not just to believe in God, but to truly know Him.

“This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” — John 17:3 (KJV)

This is where growth begins again and again.

When we stop overthinking people…

And return to knowing God.

But God has been teaching me something deeper:

You are no longer meant to find clarity through people.

You are meant to find Me.

The Inspired Verse

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

And I will be found of you, saith the LORD…”

— Jeremiah 29:13–14 (KJV)

But what does it really mean to seek Him with all your heart?

Not a percentage.

Not when it’s convenient.

Not when we feel steady.

All your heart means we begin to live in conversation with God.

We pray.

We listen.

We walk.

And as we walk, He establishes our steps.

It means we are learning to lean our heart closer to Jesus

than to our feelings,

our interpretations,

or what we think others may be thinking.

Because God looks at the heart.

Even in our learning…

Even in our seeking…

Even in our questions…

God is not standing over us calling it failure.

He sees the heart that is turning toward Him.

He blesses the seeking.

He honors the searching.

Even the places where we misunderstood,

or needed correction along the way—

were never wasted.

They were part of the process of coming to know Him.

“My thoughts are not your thoughts…” says the Lord.

And this is why we can trust Him.

Because we are not trusting our understanding—

we are trusting the One who makes all things possible.

This is why we are never empty.

There is always overflow when we are seeking Him.

And as we grow, we begin to understand something else:

We are not responsible for how others receive what we say.

We are responsible to seek God,

to surrender,

to obey,

and then release it back into His hands.

We do not carry what He did not assign.

We are not called to defend ourselves,

but to let our lives reflect our faith in a way that honors God.

And in that decision, there is freedom.

Our souls are no longer striving—

but resting in Jesus.

We do not hold what He has already asked us to release.

We love.

We stand in truth.

We walk in obedience.

And we trust God with the rest.

This is what it means to grow in Him.

To be ever increasing in the knowledge of the One who created us—

not just to believe in Him…

but to truly know Him.

The Shift

This is the shift:

From seeking answers through people

to seeking God with your whole heart

Because when we rely on people:

  • we become anxious

  • we overthink

  • we read into things

  • we lose peace

But when we seek God:

  • we become grounded

  • we receive clarity

  • we walk in peace

  • we are no longer shaken by perception

A Personal Realization

I began to notice something in myself…

As I continued to grow, I also began to understand something else:

We are not called to control, manage, or fix people.

I am also learning this:

I am not called to control anyone else’s life.

I am not called to monitor, correct everything, or react to every concern.

I am called to love,

to stand in truth,

and to be a steady voice without pressure.

Is my opinion invited?

That matters.

Because loving with wisdom is different than trying to manage outcomes.

This is part of transformation—

Choosing wisdom over reaction.

Choosing surrender over control.

And trusting that God is fully capable of working in the lives of others,

just as He is faithfully working in mine.

As we mature in the Lord, we begin to discern what is from God for us to learn…

and what is something we must release back to Him.

Not everything we see, feel, or notice is ours to carry.

This is part of the freedom we have in Christ.

Jesus doesn’t just free us from sin—

He frees our soul from the weight of trying to figure everything out, fix everything, and hold everything together.

There is a peace that comes when we let God be God…

and allow Him to work in others the same way He is working in us.

I wasn’t just observing people

—I was trying to interpret my life through them.

What did that mean?

Was that for me?

Do they see me?

Did I do something wrong?

And God gently showed me:

That is not where your answers come from.

That cycle will never bring peace.

Because people were never meant to be your source.

The Truth

Even good people

…Even kind people

…Even people who mean well …

They are still human.

And if we place our need for clarity, validation, or direction in people,

we will always feel unsettled.

Because what we are actually looking for

… can only be found in God.

What God Is Teaching Me

And I don’t mind sharing this with you…

God is teaching me patience.

Real patience.

The kind that says:

“I would rather stand empty-handed in a season of waiting with God

… than fill the silence with something He never gave me.”

Because sometimes the delay is not denial.

Sometimes the delay is:

  • protection

  • preparation

  • correction

And sometimes

… it is simply God teaching us to come to Him first.

Letting Go

This is where surrender begins:

Letting go of needing to understand everything through people

Letting go of overanalyzing

Letting go of comparison

Letting go of seeking signs in places God never intended

And choosing instead:

“God, I will come to You first.”

“God, I trust You with what I don’t understand.”

“God, You are my source—not people.”

“And I choose gratitude—for what You are doing, even when I cannot yet see it.”

Peace Is the Evidence

When we shift from people to God, something changes:

Peace begins to guard our hearts.

Not because everything makes sense

… But because we are no longer searching in the wrong place.

This Is Part of a 3-Part Series

God is teaching this in layers:

Part 1 — The Shift: Stop seeking through people

If this spoke to you, continue with Part 2 — The Practice, where we learn how to release people’s opinions and walk in peace.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

Teach me to seek You with my whole heart.

Help me to stop looking to people for answers You are waiting to give.

Quiet the noise in my mind and center my heart on You.

Give me peace in the waiting, and clarity in Your presence.

I choose to trust You over my thoughts, my fears, and my interpretations.

You are my source.

Amen.

My newest teaching video is now live on YouTube.

It’s raw, it’s real — and it’s prayerfully meant for someone God has on His heart today.

As I shared this new teaching, I was reminded of something the Lord has shown me over time: faith grows, but it remains the same faith.

The Freedoms in Christ: How Jesus Sets the Soul Free series reflects my current season of teaching — but along the way, the Lord gently led me to include two earlier videos created before this website ever existed.

One was recorded in 2015–2016, when I was first stepping out in faith, simply obeying and learning to trust God, day by day.

The other was shared a few years ago, during a season when the Lord was healing me and freeing me from pain that tried to turn loneliness into bondage.

Looking back, I see now: they were never separate stories — they were part of the same journey of faith, growth, and freedom in Christ.

Just like the parable Jesus shared:

“Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?”
— Luke 15:8

Nothing God works through is ever lost — sometimes it’s simply waiting for the right time to be seen again.

Maybe you feel that way too: overlooked, out of season, or unsure where you belong.

But hear this:
You are not lost to God.
And if you seek Him, you will find Him.
