From Seed to Life — Being Born Again Ask, Seek, Knock — When the Heart Opens to God’s Word
This teaching explores what it means to be born again, how faith begins, and how the heart responds to the Word of God.
When You Ask … Something Begins to Open
If you found your way here … from wherever you are,
I’m so glad you’re here.
When you get here,
I hope you find a comfortable place,
a cup of coffee or your favorite drink,
… and feel like you have time, so you don’t have to rush.
This is not something to hurry through.
This is something to sit with the Lord in.
Ask… and Something Begins to Open
Jesus said:
“Ask, and it shall be given you…”— Matthew 7:7 (KJV)
When you ask…something begins to open.
Not always around you right away—but within you.
What is being opened?
Our heart.
The Life Is in the Seed
The life is in the seed.
And the soil is being prepared. Your heart is the soil.
Sometimes we don’t see anything happening yet.
But something is happening beneath the surface.
“Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”— Romans 10:17 (KJV)
Faith begins where the Word is received in the soil; that is in our heart.
And when we ask, we are opening ourselves to hear.
Seek… and the Soil Responds
Jesus didn’t stop at asking.
“Seek, and ye shall find…”— Matthew 7:7 (KJV)
Seeking is not striving.
Seeking is staying.
It is the heart that doesn’t turn away
…the heart that remains open long enough for the seed to take root.
Patience is no joke.
Have you ever watched a garden grow?
How the soil responds to the seed
… determines the production of the life.
We have the opportunity in how our heart responds to difficult things.
In other words, the condition of the soil (our heart) determines the growth of the seed.
The Seed is good.
The Seed has the power in it.
The Seed will produce exactly the imprint of God in the life that is in the Seed.
But how we respond to that Seed of life matters.
Will our heart grow weary and give up too soon?
Will our heart decide I have been good long enough?
Is it even possible for a human heart to be good without Jesus?
Sure, we can do good things, but what happens when things go wrong?
How about in the most tempting moment?
How is the soil of your heart?
This is written to encourage you to sit with the Lord and encourage your self in the Lord.
Be still and listen.
Seek His Way and and guidance.
And take courage to do what you know and believe God says do.
Will situations determine if that seed will grow?
Only if we let them.
We get to decide how long it will take.
Each person will grow at the pace God sets for us.
You are not stuck, but you can begin making decisions based on your faith and believing God at His word.
Jesus explained it like this:
“But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.”— Luke 8:15 (KJV)
God has been working patience in my soil!
Patience is no joke.
Patience is the power to discovering this happy in our heart.
The place God calls the good soil that receives the word with gladness.
Happy is the heart that does truth.
The difference is not in the seed.
The difference is in the heart that receives it.
What Is God Doing in You?
If you feel something stirring
… if something in you is waking up
…if you are beginning to see what you didn’t see before…
This is not something to push away.
This is the Lord preparing the soil of your heart.
You don’t have to understand it all at once.
You can simply ask:
“Lord, help me see… so I can understand.”
A Sweet Truth
Sometimes we compare ourselves to others and think:
“I’m not that bad.”
“I’m not like them.”
But this is not about comparison.
This is about allowing God to show us what He is doing within us.
Not to condemn us—but to grow something new.
Stay Here a While
You don’t have to rush this.
Stay here.
Let the Word settle.
Let your heart remain open.
Something is being planted.
And God is faithful to bring it to life.
