Sunset at the end of a country road — The sunset wasn’t moving, aren’t we the ones moving?
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith...”

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life...”
— John 14:6 KJV
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
— Hebrews 13:8 KJV
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
— John 10:10 KJV
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful... [and] will with the temptation also make a way to escape...”
— 1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV
What we see can change with our perspective, but Truth does not change. The Son is still there whether we see Him or not. Keep looking unto Jesus.
The Sunset Wasn’t Moving — Aren’t We the Ones Moving?
This is kinda an intro into something bigger.
Wow — does this sunset disappearing make you feel as small and loved as it does me?
How great is our God!
I thank God for this sunset, and I hope you see Jesus, God’s love for you, and a world stretching farther than our eyes can even imagine — yet our God sees it all!
The other night I was riding and watching that phenomenal sunset in the video, trying to regroup from the day, thinking about the cost of grace and mercy to Jesus, freedom, and truth.
I recorded several versions as the colors changed.
And underneath it, Christ was already revealing a question that has now grown into a much bigger study:
❓ Why lie?
What does a lie actually accomplish compared with what truth can do?
I believe this belongs beautifully with what is unfolding here.
I am about to share the notes I took in my study the next morning. I actually like the duplication at this stage. I am not writing the finished series yet.
Christ is laying pieces out as Christ is teaching us, and some truths are appearing repeatedly because they connect multiple lessons.
Later we can consolidate them without losing how the understanding developed.

But while you watch, notice something.
Notice how the perspective changes based upon our position to the sun in the different videos.
The colors change.
What we can see changes.
At times it may even look as though the sunset itself is disappearing.
But—
The sunset wasn’t moving.
Aren’t we the ones moving?
And suddenly that became part of the lesson too.
Our position changed.
Our perspective changed.
And there is something here I believe Christ is teaching me that goes much deeper than a sunset.
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith...”— Hebrews 12:2 KJV
The perspective we gain depends on our focus on Jesus.
And as this study continues, we are going to begin looking at truth.
Why do we lie?
What are we trying to protect when we do?
What does a lie actually accomplish?
And what can truth do that a lie never can?
Jesus said:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life...”— John 14:6 KJV
Life in Christ comes with Love and Truth in Christ.

There Is More to Learn…
That sunset didn't answer all my questions. It actually led me into more of them.
Since that evening, the Word of God has continued opening before me, and I want to take these questions to Christ rather than answer them from my own reasoning.
Why is there evil? Why do we suffer? Why do we hide? Why do we lie? What is truth? And what does Jesus teach us about all of it?
I don't know everywhere this study will take us yet.
But I know where I want to keep looking:
Jesus.

A Special Note:
What Was Happening Beneath This Sunset
There is only music playing in this video.
But my heart was riding with Jesus, looking for Truth.
I was thinking about grace and mercy, freedom and truth — and the sunset I found just kept unfolding, giving me more and more to see.
And since that sunset, so has the Word of God.
Even today, I am still seeking to know more.
I believe the Word of God is speaking so much to the Church right now, and there is a question that has become very personal to me:
Why do people lie?
What are we trying to escape?
Fear?
Shame?
Embarrassment?
Consequences?
Being seen for something we wish we hadn't done?
I recently spent two days uncovering a lie. And then another day, God had it on my heart to confront the lie while still showing the truth.
And I began seeing something.
A lie doesn't really provide an escape.
It can just keep spinning us in circles.
But Scripture tells us something completely different about God:
“...God is faithful... [and] will with the temptation also make a way to escape...”— 1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV
Guys, when temptation comes — when we feel afraid, ashamed, embarrassed, or even when we are trying to find our way back to God — God is faithful.
There is a way of escape.
And I don't believe the escape is found in another lie.
I believe we need to look at what Jesus teaches us about truth, freedom, deception and life.
Jesus said:
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”— John 10:10 KJV
That is why this sunset has become so important to me.
Perspective really matters in what we see.
As I kept riding, my position to the sunset changed.
Sometimes I could see more.
Sometimes I could see less.
The colors changed.
The view changed.
My perspective changed.
But here's the truth:
The sun was still there.
Whether I could see it or not.
And so is Jesus.
Our perspective changes.
Truth doesn't.
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”— Hebrews 13:8 KJV
Maybe that is part of why I believe the Bible is speaking so strongly to my heart to encourage the Church:
Seek to know Jesus.
Not merely what somebody says about Him.
Not merely what we have always thought.
Not merely what our present perspective allows us to see.
Look unto Jesus.
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith...”— Hebrews 12:2 KJV
Because Jesus didn't merely tell us about truth.
He said:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life...”— John 14:6 KJV
And I am beginning to wonder if that sunset was only the beginning of what Christ was preparing my heart to see.
The sunset wasn't moving — aren't we the ones moving?
