The Difference Between Comfort and Transformation

When Jesus Heals Deeper Than Emotions Alone

The Difference Between Comfort and Transformation

Part 2 of the Series: We Need to Live Deeper Lives
When Jesus Heals Deeper Than Emotions Alone

In this teaching, Karen shares how God began revealing the difference between temporary comfort and true transformation through Jesus Christ.

What began as a grief journey slowly became a deeper healing journey — a renewal of the soul, the mind, the emotions, and the inner life through surrender, truth, and learning to live spiritually minded one step at a time.

This testimony-centered teaching explores:

• temporary comfort vs lasting transformation

• healing emotional wounds

• renewing the mind

• spiritually minded living

• surrender and soul healing

• identity, peace, and learning to live free again through Christ

Beginning the Healing Journey

There was a time when I thought God was simply helping me survive grief.

And He was.

But over time, I slowly realized Jesus was healing something much deeper than emotions alone.

He was healing the way I thought.

The way I responded.

The way I felt.

The things I feared.

The things I believed I needed in order to survive.

Looking back now, I can see that my grief journey slowly became a soul healing journey.

Temporary Comfort vs True Transformation

Many times in life, we search horizontally for healing.

We look for temporary relief through:

• distractions,

• reassurance,

• entertainment,

• approval,

• comfort from people,

• or anything that helps us breathe for a moment.

But temporary comfort and true transformation are not the same thing.

Temporary comfort soothes emotions for a little while.

Transformation changes the inner life.

Jesus did not only come to comfort us temporarily.

He came to heal us from the inside out.

Learning to Live Spiritually Minded

Romans 8:6 says:

“To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

Over time, this became more than just a Bible verse to me.

It became something I slowly began experiencing in real life.

Jesus began teaching me how to:

• think differently,

• respond differently,

• trust differently,

• and live differently.

Healing was not always loud or instant.

Sometimes healing looked like learning to walk with Jesus one surrendered step at a time.

The Deep Need to Be Loved

One of the deepest things God revealed to me was how much of my pain came from wanting to feel:

• seen,

• heard,

• known,

• and loved.

After losing my husband, there were moments of intense loneliness where I truly felt forgotten.

One day while sitting alone on the dock, I cried out to God:

“Why do I feel so alone?”

Almost immediately, my son with the triplets came running toward me carrying a baby goose they had just helped hatch.

In that moment, God let me know:

He heard me.

He saw me.

And I was loved.

Sometimes God sends a “baby goose” into our lives in unexpected ways just to remind us we are not forgotten.

Vertical Healing

What God slowly began showing me is that many of us seek horizontally for what can only truly be healed vertically through Him.

Human love matters deeply.

People matter deeply.

But there are places inside the soul that only God Himself can fully heal.

That healing begins when we stop running only toward temporary relief and begin turning honestly toward Jesus.

The Living Water Beneath the Surface

As this journey continued, God began showing me a picture through a hidden stream beneath layers of leaves and earth.

Underneath the surface, living water was still flowing.

It simply had to be uncovered.

That hidden stream became a picture of the soul.

Pain,

fear,

striving,

exhaustion,

and emotional wounds can build layers over the life God placed within us.

But underneath it all, Jesus is still the living water flowing beneath the surface.

Transformation often begins when God starts uncovering what has been hidden deep within us.

Healing Is a Process

Healing is not pretending we are okay.

Healing is not behavior management.

Healing is not suppressing emotions.

Healing is allowing Jesus to slowly renew the soul.

Little by little, He teaches us:

• how to think differently,

• how to respond differently,

• how to surrender differently,

• and how to walk in peace again.

Sometimes we are not actually looking for transformation.

We are simply looking for relief.

But God desires something deeper for us.

Peace Through Surrender

For a long time, I thought peace came through controlling life.

But over time, Jesus taught me that peace comes through surrender.

Exodus 14:14 says:

“The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

Human nature wants control.

But healing often begins when we finally say:

“Lord, I need You.”

And then continue walking with Him one day at a time.

Learning to Live Again

One of the greatest things Jesus has done in my life is teach me how to live again.

Not merely survive.

Live.

There is a difference.

God does not heal us so we can remain trapped inside the wound forever.

He heals us so we can live free in Him.

Transformation is often quiet.

Slow.

Deep.

Personal.

But Jesus truly does heal from the inside out.

A Final Encouragement

If you are walking through grief, fear, anxiety, loneliness, emotional exhaustion, or deep inner pain, please do not lose hope.

Transformation takes time.

Healing takes surrender.

But Jesus really does restore the soul.

I am still learning.

Still growing.

Still walking one step at a time with Jesus.

But I can honestly say now:

He did not only help me survive.

He transformed me.
