The Rain That Began the Journey | Breaking Up Fallow Ground

A personal testimony and biblical encouragement about healing, surrender, and how God used an unexpected rain experience to awaken a deeper hunger to seek Him through His Word and break up the fallow ground of the heart.

Hosea 10:12

Karen Rowe shares a personal Christian testimony about healing, surrender, and seeking the Lord through life’s transitions. This peaceful Hope in Today Ministries video reflects on spiritual growth, breaking up fallow ground, and the moment God used “rain” to awaken a deeper hunger for His Word and presence.
That day, I was expecting the rain, but I knew nothing about the Fruit I was about to experience. I didn’t yet understand the peace, joy, love, kindness, and presence of the Holy Spirit that God was beginning to awaken in me. I only knew something holy had touched my heart and changed the direction of my life. I remember looking for sprinklers after seeing streams of water rise up out of the ground — but there were none. Years later, I still reflect on that moment with awe and gratitude. What began that day became part of a much deeper journey of healing, surrender, transformation, and learning to seek the Lord through His Word. This testimony is written in full in my book, The Train Whistle. 📖 “For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters…” — Jeremiah 17:8 — Hope in Today Ministries • Walking with Jesus — one step at a time.

Sometimes God begins working in our lives long before we understand

what He is doing.

In this early testimony and teaching, Karen shares part of the beginning of her journey — learning to seek the Lord more deeply through Scripture, surrendering fear and self-reliance, and discovering that true peace is found in Jesus Christ.

Using Hosea 10:12 as the foundation, this teaching explores:

• breaking up the fallow ground of the heart

• releasing fear, striving, and confusion into trust

• how healing often happens through process

• how God softens the heart through mercy

• and how spiritual transformation happens one step at a time through His Word

A central part of this testimony includes an unexpected rain experience that became a turning point — not because of the rain itself, but because of what God was revealing through it.

Looking back years later, Karen reflects on how God was already teaching mercy, surrender, healing, and peace long before she fully understood the journey.

Sometimes the beginning of healing is simply recognizing that God is already at work.

Every year I expected the rain.

But this year, the rain became part of the lesson.

To God be the glory — He began teaching me about His love.

Hope in Today Ministries graphic titled “The Rain That Began the Journey.” The image shows rain falling beside an open Bible at sunrise, symbolizing healing, surrender, spiritual growth, and seeking the Lord through God’s Word. The graphic includes themes of personal testimony, healing for the heart, breaking up fallow ground, peace, praise, and walking with Jesus one step at a time.
Every year I expected the rain. This year it was a very special rain. To God be the Glory, He began teaching me about His Love.
