How God Guides Us — Hear → Know → Walk
God does not leave His people without direction.
He teaches us to hear,
to understand,
and to walk with Him.
The Key Word: “Cause”
David says twice:
Cause me to hear
Cause me to know
In Hebrew, this is a form of a verb meaning:
-
Make me perceive
-
Enable me to understand
David is acknowledging something important:
👉 Spiritual understanding comes from God.
It is not merely human reasoning.
This aligns with:
📖 John 16:13
“When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.”
📖 Psalm 143:8 (KJV)
“Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning;
for in thee do I trust:
cause me to know the way wherein I should walk;
for I lift up my soul unto thee.”
Sometimes God answers our prayer before we even see the Scripture.
This verse became my testimony one morning as I was praying and
asking the Lord how to walk.
And then this appeared:
Cause me to hear.
Cause me to know.
The Pattern of Guidance
This prayer reveals a beautiful pattern:
👉 First, we hear His voice
👉 Then we understand His ways
👉 Then we walk in the truth He shows us
Hear — Learning to Recognize God’s Voice
📖 Psalm 143:8
“Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning…”
God begins by teaching us to hear Him.
Not always through dramatic moments—
but through:
-
Scripture
-
prayer
-
conviction
-
the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit
📖 John 16:13
“He will guide you into all truth…”
Learning to hear God begins with relationship.
Before we know the path,
we learn to recognize the Shepherd.
Know — Understanding the Way God Leads
📖 Psalm 143:8
“…cause me to know the way wherein I should walk.”
As we hear Him, He begins to give understanding.
Discernment grows as we seek Him.
📖 James 3:17
“The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable…”
God’s wisdom produces clarity, peace, and truth.
📖 1 John 4:16
“God is love…”
Understanding His love helps us recognize His direction.
Walk — Living the Truth God Shows Us
Hearing and understanding lead to action.
The Christian life is not just knowing truth—
it is walking in truth.
📖 Galatians 5:22–23
“The fruit of the Spirit is…”
As we follow Christ, His Spirit transforms us.
📖 Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ…”
The same Spirit who guides you
also strengthens you.
Trust — The Foundation of Guidance
Before hearing clearly or walking confidently,
God asks for one thing:
Trust.
📖 Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart…”
Trust prepares the heart to receive guidance.
When we release our understanding,
He directs our path.
Encouragement — God Still Guides His People
📖 John 10:27
“My sheep hear my voice…”
God still leads His people today.
-
Through Scripture
-
Through the Holy Spirit
-
Through relationship with Jesus
Over time, a pattern becomes clear:
Hear → Know → Walk
This is the rhythm of walking with Christ.
Closing Reflection
God teaches us to hear His voice,
so we can know His ways,
so we can walk in His truth.
With love in Christ,
Karen
