Title: The Love I Didn’t Want to Believe In

“Love always hopes, always believes, always perseveres.”— 1 Corinthians 13:7 Even when I didn’t want to believe . . . Love didn’t let go. . . Because Jesus never did.
“Love always hopes, always believes, always perseveres.”— 1 Corinthians 13:7 Even when I didn’t want to believe . . . Love didn’t let go. . . Because Jesus never did.

Scripture:“

Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”1 Corinthians 13:7–8a (NIV)

Reflection:I

’m learning something I didn’t expect to wrestle with: I don’t always want to believe the best in people. I don’t always want to hope for them or persevere in love when I’ve been let down. But love — true love — isn’t just an emotion or a noble goal. Love is a Person. And if Christ lives in me, then this kind of love is not just possible… it’s who I’m becoming.

Still, I have to confess — I’ve found myself resisting the hope that love brings. Not because it isn’t beautiful, but because it’s costly. Because hoping again feels vulnerable. Because trusting again feels risky. Because persevering feels like surrender. But that is exactly what Jesus did for me. And if He lives in me, then His kind of love must also live through me — not in my own strength, but by His Spirit.

Love always hopes… not because people always deserve it, but because Jesus never stopped hoping for us. And even when we want to close the door, God's love keeps it cracked open — not for foolishness to walk in, but for grace to win.

This love isn’t a burden. It’s a mirror — reflecting the One who never gave up on us.

Prayer:

Lord, I confess that sometimes I don’t want to hope or believe again. It feels safer to shut down than to love deeply. But You are Love — and You live in me. Teach me to love like You do. Give me wisdom, yes… but also give me a heart that reflects Yours. Help me trust the kind of love that always hopes — because it’s rooted in who You are, not who they are. May Your love grow in me, until it becomes the truest thing about me.

Amen.

My newest teaching video is now live on YouTube.

It’s raw, it’s real — and it’s prayerfully meant for someone God has on His heart today.

As I uploaded this, I also rediscovered my first video from 2016 — one I thought I had lost forever. But like the parable of the lost coin, it was never worthless — just out of circulation for a time. And now? It’s found and brought back to where it can shine light again.

“Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?”
— Luke 15:8

This new video — and the old one — were waiting to be found for such a time as this.

Maybe you feel like that too: misplaced, overlooked, or just not seen.

But hear this:
You are not lost to God.
And if you seek Him, you will find Him.
