Living God’s Word: Learning to Live What I Share

Learning to Live What I Share
Living God’s Word is what I want to keep learning—receiving His truth and putting it into practice as I follow Jesus.
Learning to Walk with Jesus — One Lesson at a Time
Living God’s Word
“But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”
—2 Timothy 4:5, KJV
I took notes on every part of this verse. As I read it, I could see lessons I have been learning for years—especially over these last three to five years.
Come sit with me awhile.
The fence in this photograph is part of my story. It reminds me of years of learning and new beginnings for my family. Beside it is the home I left behind for my daughter’s family’s new beginning. The land you see is set aside for a new beginning for me, my son, and my mother. As I look at this familiar place, I am also recognizing how much I am learning to live what Jesus has been teaching me.
For years, I have wanted to serve Jesus. But there was so much I still needed to learn. I wanted to share Him before I had even read His Bible. Looking back, I can see how much I needed His Word to teach me and change me.
And I am still learning.
Recently, something that once would have seemed like a terrible wall did not upset me the way it would have before. I was able to thank Jesus and trust Him with the timing.
That mattered to me.
I was beginning to see what I had been learning become something
I could live.

Patience is more than a word I can explain.
I need the Lord to work it in me.
Scripture says,
“the trying of your faith worketh patience” (James 1:3).
His Spirit bears fruit in our lives, including longsuffering (Galatians 5:22).
Paul wrote this instruction to Timothy as he urged him to remain faithful to God’s Word, even when people turned away from the truth. It makes me examine how I serve, too.
Am I staying watchful over what I believe and what I share?
Am I receiving correction?
Am I continuing in love when things are difficult?
Am I helping people understand Jesus?
That is my heart’s desire.
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.
He came in the flesh, died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day.
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
—1 Corinthians 15:3–4, KJV
That is the good news I want to share.
And Jesus calls us to respond:
“repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15).
Repentance used to sound like such a strong word to me.
I needed to understand it.
I am learning that it means acknowledging my sin and turning to God:
“Lord, I want Your way. Show me where I am wrong, and help me turn.”
Faith means trusting Jesus—who He is and what He has done for us.
As we trust Him, we learn to obey Him.
We are saved by grace through faith, and good works follow as the fruit of His work in us (Ephesians 2:8–10).
I want His Word to govern how I respond to my thoughts and feelings.
I want to pray for people when there is hurt.
And I want to remain willing for Him to correct me, too.
My experience can illustrate Biblical truth.
Scripture must govern how I understand my experience.
Whether I am writing a devotion, sharing a Scripture, or recording a video, this is the question I want to keep before me:
Does this help someone understand
who Jesus is,
what He has done,
and their need to respond to Him in repentance and faith?
Perhaps you are growing through some of these same lessons. Be encouraged to keep your eyes on Jesus. Keep coming to Him, receiving His correction, and learning to trust Him with what your heart desires.
I have had to ask myself a very personal question:
Am I willing to sacrifice my relationship with Jesus for anything my heart desires?
My answer was no. It has been no, and by His grace, it remains no.
That choice has been good for my life. I give Jesus the credit for the change He is working in me. I have needed His grace to make that choice and to keep walking in it.
Whatever you are facing, you can bring it honestly to Him. Ask Him to help you trust Him, surrender what needs surrendering, and take the next step in obedience. I am still learning to do that, too.
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”
—Psalm 19:14, KJV
Lord Jesus, thank You for teaching me. Help me receive Your correction, trust You through difficulty, and speak Your truth with gentleness. Keep my words and my heart pleasing to You. Help those who hear to understand Your gospel and turn to You in repentance and faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Christ is the Teacher; I am a fellow learner.
Sharing with thanksgiving, in Jesus’ name.
