DOES THE LORD HAVE YOUR HEART?

What holds the weight of your heart… and where is it leading you?
If you’ve been carrying a heavy heart lately — this devotion is for you.
Because Jesus didn’t just talk about the heart
… He knows the heart.
And He tells us something that reveals so much about our life direction:
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
(Matthew 6:21)
So let me ask you gently:
What holds the weight of your heart today?
Where Your Treasure Is… and Why Jesus Says Seek First
Lately, the Lord has been pressing something deeper into my heart
— not just about fear … but about the heart itself.
Because fear often reveals what we treasure.
And Jesus said something that stops me in my tracks:
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
(Matthew 6:21, KJV)
So let me ask you — gently, honestly:
What holds the weight of your heart?
What do you value most?
What do you think about the most?
What do you return to when you’re hurting, afraid, unsettled, lonely, or overwhelmed?
Treasure isn’t only what you have — it’s what has you.
Because what we treasure…drives us.
And what drives us… directs us.
1) Treasure is not just what you own
— it’s what owns your attention.
When Jesus says treasure, He’s not only talking about money.
He’s talking about value.
Priority.
Desire.
Treasure is what your heart leans toward.
Treasure is what you pursue when nobody sees you.
Treasure is what you secretly believe will fix you.
Treasure is what you run to in your mind when life hurts.
And sometimes… we don’t even realize what we treasure until life shakes us hard enough to reveal it.
That’s why Jesus speaks this so plainly.
Because the heart is powerful
— and the Bible tells us the truth:
“The heart is deceitful above all things…”
(Jeremiah 17:9)
That means:
if we let emotions lead
…if we only live by what we “feel” … we can be led by something that seems believable on the surface but is not truth.
And we cannot afford that in a world like this.
2) Jesus understands what your heart carries
— and He calls you to bring it to God.
Some of us are carrying questions we don’t say out loud.
Questions like:
“Lord… why did You take my dad?”
“Why does this life hurt so much?”
“Why does it feel like I’m left here to figure it out?”
“How can this be better for me when it feels like something important was taken?”
Let me say this plainly:
God is not offended by your raw honesty.
God is not offended by your honesty
— He is inviting you into healing through truth.
He already knows what you feel.
The question is not whether He knows it
…but whether we will bring it to Him.
Because confessing your heart to God isn’t pretending you’re strong.
It’s surrendering what is real.
It’s saying:
“Lord, this hurts.”
“Lord, I don’t understand.”
“Lord, I need You.”
“Lord, hold the weight of my heart.”
And I can testify…He will.
3) Jesus has prayed for you
— personally.
This is where it becomes more than teaching.
This becomes comfort.
Because Jesus didn’t just teach about the heart…
He carried the heart.
And in John 17 — Jesus prays.
Not only for the disciples standing near Him…
But for everyone who would believe through their word.
That includes us.
That includes you.
Before you read any further… remember this: Jesus has prayed for you.
(John 17)
So pause right here
— because I believe Jesus wants this to move from the page into your heart:
“I can hear the Lord say…”
Karen, I have prayed for you.— Love, Jesus
(John 17)
Insert your name… and speak that to your heart.
Think about that.
Jesus — the Son of God — prayed for you.
Not as a general statement…
But as a High Priest who sees you.
Knows you
.Intercedes for you.
And if Jesus prayed…
Then you are not forgotten.
You are not alone.
You are not left to carry this life by yourself.
4) “BUT seek ye first…”
means pivot — return — come back to God.
Now we arrive at the “but.”
And I love the word BUT in Scripture because it is a turn.
It means:
Stop going that direction.
Stop leaning on that.
Stop striving to fix it in your own strength.
Come back.
The word “BUT” is a mercy — a pivot back to God.
Jesus says:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
(Matthew 6:33, KJV)
This matters:
Ye means you.
God is speaking to you personally.
Seek means God is not hiding from you
—He wants to be found by you.
And did you read the rest?
“And all these things…”
The things you really need.
The comfort.
The direction.
The wisdom.
The strength.
The healing.
Even the fathering you long for.
God knows what you need
— and He is faithful.
I don’t have it all figured out…
But God does.
5) This is what faith looks like.
Faith doesn’t mean we don’t hurt.
Faith means we bring our hurt to the One who died and rose again
— and trust Him to lead us.
So here’s what I’ve learned:
We pray — God does the work.
We believe — God does the work.
We depend on Him — God does the work.
We walk by faith — God does the work.
And God will even help us do our part.
That’s a good Father.
A faithful Father.
A Father who doesn’t demand perfection before you come near…
but invites you to seek Him — and then strengthens you as you seek.
A heart check (gentle, but real)
So I’ll ask again:
Does the Lord have your heart?
Or has something temporary taken the place only God can hold?
Because temporary fixes will always fail under eternal weight.
But Jesus won’t.
Life is temporary — and it hurts.
But Life Eternal is real.
And knowing Jesus changes everything.
Come back tomorrow:
If you’ve ever wondered what it means to “confess the Lord”
…and why God isn’t afraid of your raw honesty…
Come back tomorrow — we’re going deeper.
To God be the glory.

Soli Deo Gloria.
Thank you, Jesus.
If this devotion met you where you are, I pray it reminded you of this truth:
You are not alone.
You are not forgotten.
And you are not carrying the weight of your heart without Jesus.
He has prayed for you.
(John 17)
And He is still drawing hearts to seek Him first
— and rest in Him.
To God be the glory.
Thank You, Jesus.
