The Power to Let Go

Scripture:
"Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'"— Matthew 16:24 (NIV)
Sometimes what we “see” is not a door to walk through—but something we’ve been holding on to. Control. Fear. Expectations. Maybe even pain. And Jesus lovingly points and says, “Let that go—follow Me instead.”
Surrender doesn’t always look like weakness. In fact, true surrender is one of the boldest acts of faith. It’s choosing to lay down what’s in your hands so you can receive what God is offering.
Jesus invites us not just to walk with Him—but to die to the things that keep us from walking freely. We can’t carry both the cross and our pride. We can’t follow Him fully if we’re still gripping what He’s asking us to release.
The good news? He never asks us to surrender anything without the promise of something greater—His presence, His peace, His life.
Reflection Questions:
What might God be asking you to let go of today?
How does surrender feel risky—and how could it actually lead to freedom?
What would following Jesus more fully look like right now?
Prayer:
Lord, show me what I’m still clinging to.If I’m afraid to let go, help me trust You more than I trust my fear.Help me release control, pride, or anything that stands between us.You are worth everything. Lead me to follow You fully. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Invitation:
Jesus wants to walk with you. If you're ready, tell God you believe Jesus is the Son of God, who died, was buried, and rose again so you can live.
Ask God to help you focus on Jesus and not on what hurts. he knows how to turn what hurt you into what heals others through you.
