Behold the Lamb of God — What Does “Sin of the World” Really Mean?

John once said,
“Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”— John 1:29 (KJV)
This wasn’t just a statement.
It was a revelation.
And it came at a very specific moment—
“the next day.”
What Happened “The Next Day”?
The day before, John had been questioned.
Religious leaders came asking who he was—
whether he was the Christ, Elijah, or a prophet.
John answered clearly:
he was not the One.
He was only a voice—
preparing the way.
But then… the next day, everything changed.
John saw Jesus coming unto him.
And in that moment,
he didn’t point to himself—
he pointed to Jesus.
“Behold the Lamb of God…”
Why Does It Say “Sin” and Not “Sins”?
Scripture does not say
“sins” (plural).
It says:
“the sin of the world.”
This is not a mistake.
This is depth.
If Jesus only dealt with sins,
He would only be addressing behavior.
But Jesus came for something deeper.
The Root, Not Just the Fruit
Sin, in this verse, speaks to:
The fallen nature of man
The separation between God and man
The condition that produces all sin
Jesus did not come
just to correct what we do.
He came
to restore what was broken at the core.
When Understanding Doesn’t Match What You See
John recognized Jesus clearly.
And yet later, from prison, he asked:
“Are You the One?”
(Matthew 11:3)
Not because truth changed—but because circumstances didn’t look
the way he expected.
God Is Doing Something Deeper
Not everything God does
will look like what you expected.
Not every prayer
will unfold the way you thought.
But that doesn’t mean
He isn’t moving.
It may mean…
He is doing something deeper
than you can see right now.
So if things don’t look right…
Look again.
Behold Him.
Come unto Him.
This message is part of a deeper walk
in seeing Jesus clearly and trusting Him fully.
