What Draws Us to Love Christ?
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”
— John 14:1 (KJV)
Scripture:
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”
— John 14:1 (KJV)
Reflection
Paul warned that not loving Christ leaves us outside of hope.
But Jesus Himself offers the invitation:
“Let not your heart be troubled … believe in Me.”
The same God who draws every soul also comforts every heart that trusts in Him.
Fear, pride, and sin are what keep us from loving Christ.
We love lesser things,
or we let wounds and disappointments harden our hearts.
Yet what draws us to love Christ is far greater—
His own love poured out for us on the cross.
“We love him, because he first loved us.”
(1 John 4:19)
The love of Christ calms troubled hearts.
It invites us to live in peace, trusting the God
who holds all things together.
His Spirit whispers,
“Come, follow Me,”
and in following,
we discover that His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
So, instead of asking,
“What if my heart is too troubled?”
Jesus invites us to ask:
“What if I trust Him anyway?”
That’s where peace begins.
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for drawing me to Your Son by love and not by force.
Forgive me for the things that keep me from loving Jesus fully.
Teach me to live in peace, trusting You with every trouble and every fear.
Let my heart be captured more and more by Jesus, who first loved me.
Amen.
Tune in tomorrow:
We’ll look deeper at how to guard against what keeps us from loving Christ
—and how His Spirit helps us overcome it.
What does this mean?
“Let not your heart be troubled:
ye believe in God, believe also in me.” — John 14:1 (KJV)
This is a wonderful verse to pause with.
Let’s break it down gently:
The Context
Jesus spoke these words the night before His crucifixion, in the upper room with His disciples.
He had just told them He was leaving,
and their hearts were heavy with fear, confusion, and sorrow.
Into that moment He said:
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”
The Meaning
“Let not your heart be troubled”
→ Jesus isn’t saying troubles won’t come.
He’s saying:
don’t let them overwhelm your inner life.
Your heart doesn’t have to sink under the weight of fear or uncertainty.
“Ye believe in God”
→ The disciples already trusted in God the Father,
the One they had been raised to worship.
“Believe also in me”
→ Here Jesus makes a powerful claim:
The same trust you give to God the Father, give to Me.
He is placing Himself on equal ground with God—
revealing that He is the way to peace, the way to the Father.
The Application
When fear rises:
Jesus says, you don’t have to let fear be your master.
When life feels uncertain:
He points us back to trust—
not in circumstances, but in Himself.
When doubts come:
Jesus reminds us that believing in Him is believing in God,
because He and the Father are one (John 10:30).
In other words:
Don’t let your heart be consumed with fear.
The same God you already trust is fully present in Me.
Trust Me, and you’ll find peace.

Continue the Journey:
What draws us to love Christ is not pressure—
but His love, His peace, and His invitation to trust Him.
But what happens when our hearts are still troubled?
